Stephen Ward insists that Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Roger Johnson has the full backing of the players after being fined by the club for a breach of discipline.

Stephen Ward has insisted that Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Roger Johnson has the full backing of the players after he was fined by the club for a breach of discipline.

The defender was punished by interim manager Terry Connor after he was deemed unfit to train on Monday following his side's 5-0 thrashing at Fulham last weekend.

"Roger is a strong enough character to bounce back from this and he knows the lads are behind him 100%," said Ward.

"This has got into the media, which is something that has disappointed the lads. If things happen, we'd prefer it to stay in the dressing room so we can resolve it between ourselves.

"It makes it look as if there are more problems than there are. Since Roger came here he's been the ultimate pro so I don't think this will affect him."

Wolves host fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League later today (Saturday).
