Ipswich wins: 18

While Newcastle United and Ipswich Town may be battling at opposite ends of the Premier League table right now, both sides interestingly boast a near identical number of victories over the other; the Magpies have won 19 and lost 18 of their previous 53 previous head-to-heads.

More recent battles have tended to go the way of the men in black and white, who have prevailed in nine of their 15 showdowns during the Premier League era (1992 onwards), while only suffering two losses to the Tractor Boys in that time.

Eddie Howe's men ran out comfortable 4-0 victors at Portman Road back in December 2024 and 3-0 winners at home in April 2025, the latter result condemning Ipswich to a swift Championship return.

That merciless double saw Newcastle avenge one of those previous two aforementioned defeats in that post-1992 sequence, a 3-1 Championship loss in East Anglia in 2017, and once have Ipswich managed to get one over Newcastle in the Premier League, a 1-0 home success in April 2001 courtesy of a Marcus Stewart spot kick.

Indeed, by prevailing in April 2025, Newcastle completed their first double over the Tractor Boys since the 1973-74 season, having also been held to 16 draws by their East Anglian counterparts down the years.

It has been over four decades since Newcastle last lost a home match to Ipswich, though, going down 2-1 to the Tractor Boys in a 1984-85 EFL Cup third round replay, since when they have avoided defeat in 12 straight games at St James' Park.

When Howe's men thrashed Ipswich 4-0 just before Christmas in 2024, that result matched their biggest-ever win over the Tractor Boys, whom they also pummelled by the same scoreline in 1969 and 2009.

In contrast, Ipswich have never beaten Newcastle by more than two goals, although they did prevail in the most thrilling encounter between the sides to date, a 5-4 Division One triumph in 1975.
