Leeds United reportedly identify a goalkeeper representing a Bundesliga club as a potential replacement for Illan Meslier.

Leeds United are reportedly contemplating whether to make an approach for a goalkeeper competing in the Bundesliga.

The Yorkshire giants are currently bidding to win the Championship title, Daniel Farke and his side knowing that victory at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon would achieve that goal.

However, with promotion to the Premier League having already been achieved, club officials can start to look at how to strengthen the first-team squad ahead of their return to the top flight.

In recent weeks, long-serving goalkeeper Illan Meslier has been dropped from the starting lineup, with the Frenchman also having just over a year remaining on his contract.

As such, it is plausible to anticipate a potential sale with the 25-year-old still likely to have many admirers in the Premier League and around Europe.

Leeds looking at Bundesliga

According to BILD, Leeds are giving consideration to making a bid for Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen.

The 27-year-old has made a total of 16 appearances for Augsburg in this season's Bundesliga, his team currently sitting in 10th position in the standings and bidding to qualify for Europe.

Since March, clean sheets have been kept against the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt to help enhance his reputation.

In total, an incredible nine shutouts have been recorded across his 16 outings in Germany's top flight during 2024-25. By comparison, he kept just three in 31 appearances last season.

Although Dahmen has reached this stage of his career with just 65 first-team games under his belt, he appears to be on an upward trajectory.

Deal dependent on Farke?

Farke has been no stranger to bringing in Bundesliga-proven players during his times with Norwich City and Leeds, and it would come as no surprise if he took a similar approach this summer.

That is providing that Farke remains at Elland Road, it having been well-documented that he possesses a dismal record when managing in the Premier League.

A decision will need to be made over whether Leeds focus on trying to achieve value for money or pay more for Premier League experience. Wolverhampton Wanderers stopper Sam Johnstone has already been linked with a switch to the newly-promoted side.
