Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez confirms that he has undergone surgery on the severe knee injury that he suffered against Crystal Palace.

Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has confirmed that he has undergone surgery on the severe knee injury that he suffered against Crystal Palace earlier this month.

The 27-year-old suffered an ACL injury in the latter stages of the Premier League clash with Palace at Old Trafford, and he is expected to be absent for the remainder of the year recovering from the issue.

Towards the end of last week, it was reported that Martinez had undergone an operation in London.

The Argentina international has now confirmed that the surgery has taken place, and the centre-back has said that he will 'give his all' in a bid to recover from the injury as soon as possible.

Man United's Martinez faces a battle to be back on the field before 2026

"Today, after going through several stormy days where I allowed myself to feel and accept my sadness, helplessness, insecurities, fears, and a deep emotional imbalance, I am reconnecting with my essence and my values, which help me see things from a kinder and more positive perspective," Martinez wrote on his official Instagram account.

"I feel immense gratitude for the incredible work and support of Man United, Argentina federation, my family, friends, teammates, and everyone who took the time to send me a message of encouragement".

"The surgery went perfectly! Now it's time to give it my all, with heart and soul, in the rehabilitation process."

Martinez has struggled with a number of injury problems during his time at Old Trafford, previously undergoing two operations on an injured foot, while he also missed a period of last season with a less-serious knee issue.

The South American has a chance of being back on the field in the early stages of next season, but Man United will not take any chances when it comes to his long-term fitness due to his importance for the Red Devils.

Man United could be missing 10 players against Tottenham

Man United have an injury crisis ahead of their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Amad Diallo, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Jonny Evans are definitely out of the contest alongside Martinez, while Kobbie Mainoo is said to be facing a few weeks on the sidelines with an issue that he suffered in training.

Manuel Ugarte is also a fitness doubt, while Toby Collyer has been unwell; goalkeepers Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir were also absent against Leicester City in the FA Cup last time out, and the pair remain doubts.

Man United head coach Ruben Amorim has allegedly brought five academy players into his squad for the clash with Spurs, including 17-year-old goal machine Chido Obi.

The 20-time English champions are currently 14th in the Premier League table, but a victory over Tottenham on Sunday would see them move above Everton and Crystal Palace into 12th spot.
