Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement with Rosenborg to sign highly-rated midfielder Sverre Nypan.
The Citizens have already made an aggressive start to the summer transfer window, with four new arrivals added to Pep Guardiola’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup later this month.
Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Marcus Bettinelli have all completed permanent moves to the Etihad Stadium and Man City appear to be on the verge of signing a fifth player this summer.
It had previously been reported that the Citizens were making progress in their pursuit of 18-year-old Nypan and were close to striking a deal with Rosenborg.
Now, The Athletic claims that a fee of £12.5m (€14.6m) has been agreed between both clubs, with no further contingencies or sell-on clauses.
Man City set to beat Arsenal, Aston Villa to Nypan signing
Personal terms are yet to be finalised, but a proposed five-year contract until June 2030 is said to be on the table.
Should Nypan complete a permanent move from Rosenborg to Man City, it would represent a record sale for a player in the Norwegian Eliteserien.
Subject to completion, Man City are expected to send Nypan out on loan next season for him to continue his development, before being integrated into Guardiola’s senior side at a later date.
Earlier this year, Nypan visited several top European clubs in the January transfer window during the Norwegian off-season, including Premier League trio Man City, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
It was reported in April that Unai Emery’s side had moved into pole position to recruit Nypan after sending representatives to Norway to present their vision to the teenager.
Man City may consider loaning Nypan to Girona next season
However, both Villa and Arsenal eventually became resigned to losing out in the race for Nypan, who has now been convinced to make the move to the Etihad Stadium.
Man City’s sister club Girona, who are also part of the City Football Group, also expressed an interest in signing the youngster earlier this year and it is thought that the Citizens could send him to the La Liga outfit on loan next season.
Nypan is widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Europe having made quite the impression as a first-team player for Rosenborg.
Since making his debut in 2022, becoming Rosenborg’s youngest-ever player as a 15-year-old, Nypan has made a total of 70 senior appearances across all competitions, recording 14 goals and 11 assists.
The versatile midfielder has played nine times in the 2025 campaign for the 26-time Norwegian champions, who currently sit third in the top-flight standings, while he is also a five-cap Norway Under-21 international.
