Leicester City may face significant financial problems in the Championship, but they could avoid falling foul of profit and sustainability rules by signing free agents.

Leicester City could look to target five free agents in the summer transfer window due to the threat of breaching profit and sustainability (PSR) rules.

The Foxes' dismal season looks almost certain to end in relegation considering they are second last in 19th place in the Premier League with just 17 points, nine fewer than 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Though Wolves may drop a number of points in the final nine matches of the campaign, Leicester have only collected three points in their last 14 top-flight games, losing on 13 occasions.

To make matters worse, the club may not be able to strengthen as much as they would like in the summer in preparation for a promotion charge given they are reportedly close to breaching financial rules.

However, Leicestershire Live have claimed that the Foxes could avoid breaching such rules by looking to sign free agents such as Peterborough United forward Kwame Poku.

Forwards that Leicester could sign

Kwame Poku predominantly plays on the right side of attack for Peterborough, and the 23-year-old is enjoying an excellent season in League One, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists.

The winger has been linked with a transfer to Ipswich Town, who are sure to be one of Leicester's main rivals for promotion back to the Premier League.

Elsewhere, Tyrhys Dolan could be another option in attack, with the versatile forward's contract expiring at Blackburn Rovers in the summer.

Dolan is comfortable operating across the forward line, and while the 23-year-old has only scored four goals this term in the Championship, his consistent availability could be an asset considering he has featured in at least 34 league games in each of his past five seasons.

Up front, striker Lukas Nmecha may be an option in the summer, but the Wolfsburg forward has been plagued by injury issues, featuring in just 12 games this season so far.

Defenders that Leicester could sign

Centre-backs Harry Darling of Swansea City and Gabriel Osho of Auxerre could come onto the Foxes' radar given their availability in the next transfer window, though it should be noted that Auxerre have an option to extend Osho's deal.

However, the 26-year-old would be an immense asset at the King Power Stadium given his experience of earning promotion to the top flight with Luton Town in 2022-23, as well as his prior experience in the Premier League with the Hatters in 2023-24.

Darling was reportedly a target of Sheffield United's in January, and considering the 25-year-old's adept ability on the ball, it is easy to see how Leicester would benefit from his signature.
