Leeds United have reportedly entered the race to sign Inter Milan forward Mehdi Taremi.
The Championship winners have overcome a slow start to the summer transfer window to make six additions that Daniel Farke hopes will significantly bolster their hopes of surviving in the Premier League.
With in excess of £60m having been spent on those half-a-dozen fresh faces, exits will have to be facilitated in due course, but that will not stop the Yorkshire giants showing ambition in the market.
At a time when Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph are both expected to depart Elland Road, Leeds will look to add a high-profile name to their attacking ranks.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Leeds have added Taremi to their list of potential signings between now and the start of September.
Leeds planning ambitious Taremi approach?
The report claims that Taremi is certain to leave Inter Milan over the coming weeks with a verbal agreement said to be in place with new head coach Cristian Chivu.
In his first season at San Siro under Simone Inzaghi, the Iranian superstar contributed three goals and nine assists from his 43 appearances in all competitions.
Eighteen of those outings came from the starting lineup, but Taremi was not part of the Inter squad that recently featured at the Club World Cup.
As such, it is claimed that Inter are willing to cash in on the 55-goal international for a fee in the region of €8m (£6.93m).
However, with Taremi having signed from Porto on a free transfer, there is potential for a reduction courtesy of Inter's desire to make a profit on the transaction.
Why Leeds are realistic contenders for Taremi
Taremi allegedly wants to remain in Europe and there is a specific desire to experience the Premier League.
Fulham and West Ham United have also been credited as admirers of the veteran, the two London clubs likely to feel that they stand a better chance than Leeds.
Nevertheless, if Taremi does not have a preference to live in England's capital, he may be more encouraged to sign for Leeds where he could become first-choice number nine.
While West Ham are in more need of a central striker than Fulham, it is questionable whether Taremi would suit Graham Potter's style of play at this stage of his career.
