Newcastle United have reportedly failed with a £25m bid for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa.
The Magpies have completed the signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest this summer, but it has otherwise been a frustrating transfer window for the club.
Newcastle are currently battling to keep hold of Alexander Isak, while they are planning to sign at least one forward, with Wissa being identified as a leading target for the club.
According to Sky Sports News, Newcastle made a £25m bid for Wissa, but it has been turned down by Brentford, who have just sold Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United in a deal worth £71m.
The report claims that Wissa is currently holding talks with the Brentford hierarchy, and he is pushing to leave the Bees to make the switch to a Champions League club.
Wissa, who has also been linked with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur this summer, scored 20 times in all competitions for Brentford during the 2024-25 campaign, including 19 strikes in the Premier League.
Ex-Man United defender Bailly 'heading for Saudi Arabia'
Meanwhile, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is set to make the move to Saudi Arabian outfit Al Najmah SC on a free transfer.
Bailly famously represented Man United between 2016 and 2023, making 113 appearances for the club, before playing for Besiktas ahead of a return to Villarreal in 2023.
The experienced defender made 25 appearances for the Yellow Submarine during his second spell at the club, but he left on a free transfer at the end of June, having failed to agree a new contract.
According to Romano, Al Najmah SC, who have secured promotion to the Saudi Pro League for the 2025-26 campaign, are nearing a deal for the 31-year-old.
Norwich 'set to sign' Schlupp after Palace release
Elsewhere, Norwich City are allegedly nearing an agreement with Jeffrey Schlupp over a move for the attacker, who is available on a free transfer this summer.
Schlupp made 247 appearances for Palace following his arrival at Selhurst Park from Leicester City in 2017.
The 32-year-old was restricted to just 16 outings in all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign, though, spending the second half of the season on loan at Celtic, and he could not come to an agreement with the Eagles over a new contract.
A number of teams have been credited with an interest in the versatile attacker, who is an attractive free agent considering his experience in the Premier League.
However, according to Football Insider, Norwich are set to win the race, with the Canaries in advanced discussions over a move, which could be confirmed before the end of the week.
The report claims that West Bromwich Albion recently fell short in their attempts to sign him.
Norwich finished 13th in the Championship last season and will be aiming to push for the playoffs in 2025-26.
