Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling is reportedly attracting interest from a former Manchester United manager.
Sterling has spent the last two weeks in pre-season training at Chelsea's Cobham training facilities as he bids to get fit for the new season.
However, there is no possibility of a reintegration into Enzo Maresca's squad after a disappointing loan stint with Arsenal in 2024-25.
The 30-year-old contributed just four assists from his 23 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League, albeit the vast majority coming from the substitutes' bench.
Nevertheless, as per BBC Sport, the former England international has an admirer in someone familiar with the Premier League.
Ten Hag considering Sterling move
The report alleges that Bayer Leverkusen - who recently appointed Erik ten Hag as their new head coach - are deliberating over whether to move for Sterling.
Leverkusen are seemingly monitoring any developments for a player who is said to be valued in the region of £20m.
There has already been widespread upheaval at the BayArena since Xabi Alonso left for Real Madrid with Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah and Florian Wirtz having all left for pastures news.
Ten Hag has recently admitted that he is wary of other experienced or key players departing his squad, even though there have also been mass arrivals.
Sterling may value the chance to try to revive his career away from the spotlight of the Premier League, where he has spent his entire career.
Another club interested in Sterling?
As per sports broadcaster Ben Jacobs, who was commenting on X, Juventus are also admirers of Sterling and may make their own move.
Unlike Leverkusen, though, it is questionable whether the Italian giants would be able or willing to pay £20m for the attacker, particularly when he has entered his thirties.
There are still two years remaining on the player's contract, plausibly giving Chelsea the leeway to negotiate a loan deal if they cannot attract their desired fee.
Reducing their wage bill through facilitating an exit for one of their biggest-earning players is arguably as important as generate a fee from a sale.
