The potential departure of Rodrygo from Real Madrid has sparked significant interest across the transfer market, with several clubs now monitoring the Brazilian forward. While Liverpool and Bayern Munich had already been linked with the player, Arsenal were previously considered the front-runners. However, following Noni Madueke’s move to Chelsea, speculation surrounding the Gunners has cooled.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Tottenham Hotspur have now emerged as a serious contender. Following their Europa League triumph, Spurs are reportedly looking to make a major move in the summer window.

Since Thomas Frank took over as manager after the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, the Dane has been promised significant investment. The strategy is to retain the core of the squad while also bolstering the team with new signings.

Tottenham have already secured the arrival of Mohammed Kudus and exercised their purchase options for Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso, taking their total net investment to nearly £125m. That figure could increase further if a deal for Rodrygo materialises.

Despite their spending, Spurs are expected to lean on their positive relationship with Real Madrid to facilitate the Brazilian’s transfer. AS reports that the north London club are hoping to negotiate the fee down to below £76m, although Real Madrid are said to be open to offers between £68m and £85m.

Although several clubs have shown interest, no formal offer has yet been submitted to Real Madrid. However, informal talks between Spurs and Rodrygo’s representatives are believed to have taken place.

Rodrygo’s potential sale to fund new signings at Real Madrid

Despite no final decision being made on Rodrygo’s future, Real Madrid already have plans in place should the forward — who remains under contract until 2028 — depart this summer.

Should the Brazilian be sold, the funds would reportedly be reinvested into the squad. Real are currently looking to reinforce their midfield and defensive lines, with a replacement for Toni Kroos considered the top priority.

According to AS, the club remain in a strong financial position and could pursue another marquee signing for the 2025-26 season. Any such addition, however, would need to meet key criteria set by the board: experience, immediate availability, and international recognition.

One of the names under consideration is Manchester City’s Rodri. The 29-year-old, who won the Ballon d'Or in 2024, is viewed as the ideal successor to Kroos. Real Madrid are said to be closely monitoring his recovery from the serious injury he sustained last season.

Other midfielders being tracked include Nicolo Barella (Inter Milan), Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea), and Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool). However, all three are tied to long-term deals with their respective clubs and remain essential first-team players, which could drive up any potential fee.

Rodri, meanwhile, is under contract with Manchester City until June 2027 and has not yet signed a new deal.
