While Liverpool are still awaiting the signing of Hugo Ekitike, they are reportedly exploring other potential reinforcements. In their search for defensive options, the Reds are said to be monitoring Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell.
The 22-year-old English defender joined Toulouse from Leeds United in July 2024 for a fee of €4.5m (approximately £3.8m). Despite arriving as a relatively unknown name, like most of TFC's summer signings, he quickly adapted to Ligue 1 and enjoyed a standout 2024-25 season. Cresswell made 34 appearances across all competitions, including 32 starts, establishing himself as a key figure in the back line.
Charlie Cresswell on Liverpool's radar
According to GiveMeSport, Liverpool scouts have watched Cresswell on multiple occasions during the past season. The England Under-21 international, who won the European Championship this summer, is believed to match the profile Liverpool are looking for.
Although the club have not yet made a move and might not do so in this window, Cresswell is reportedly part of their long-term plans. The Reds are said to be considering him as a potential successor to Virgil van Dijk, now 34, and a possible replacement for Ibrahima Konate should the Frenchman receive a tempting offer from Real Madrid.
Liverpool view Cresswell as a player capable of thriving at a top-six Premier League side. As it stands, Toulouse have not yet made a decision on his future. The defender is under contract until June 2028 and is currently valued at around £8.4m, according to Transfermarkt.
