Having been active early in the transfer window ahead of the Club World Cup, Manchester City are reportedly continuing to strengthen their squad and have turned their attention to a key Paris Saint-Germain player.
The future of Gianluigi Donnarumma remains uncertain. Despite an impressive end to the 2024-25 campaign with PSG and a mutual desire to extend his stay in the French capital, the two parties have been unable to reach an agreement over a new deal. The Italian goalkeeper's salary demands are believed to be the sticking point.
According to TBR Football, the former AC Milan shot-stopper has rejected several extension offers from PSG since the beginning of the summer. The report adds that the 26-year-old has “even snubbed talks since PSG's Champions League final triumph in May”, casting doubt over his future at the club.
Donnarumma edging closer to PSG exit
With only one year remaining on his current deal, PSG are reportedly keen to avoid losing Donnarumma on a free transfer next summer and are thus considering a sale during the current window.
Manchester City and Bayern Munich are said to be the two main contenders interested in the Italy international, with City emerging as a “realistic destination” according to TBR Football. The Premier League champions are expected to part ways with Ederson in the coming weeks and are actively seeking a replacement.
Discussions are understood to be ongoing between Donnarumma and Manchester City, with the player aiming to become the highest-paid goalkeeper in world football. His representatives are exploring exit routes and have also approached Chelsea, although that particular option has not progressed at this stage.
