Chelsea reportedly take a stance over the potential availability of Marc Cucurella amid talk of a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Chelsea have reportedly already determined their stance over the potential availability of Marc Cucurella.

Since initially struggling to meet expectations at Stamford Bridge on the back of a move from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 that could eventually be worth £62m, the left-back has established himself as a key man.

As well as contributing seven goals and nine assists from 102 appearances in all competitions, Cucurella has played an important role from a defensive standpoint.

The Spain international is just about to reach the halfway point of his six-year contract, Chelsea soon having a decision to make over his existing terms.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are said to be monitoring the situation, aware that co-owner Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital would want to maximise any transfer fee if they were to sell the 26-year-old.

What is Chelsea's Cucurella stance?

However, according to TBR Football, Chelsea have no intention of parting ways with Cucurella anytime soon.

The report alludes to Enzo Maresca being left delighted with the impact that Cucurella has made since his time at the club, the player being viewed as indispensable on the left-hand side of the defence.

Furthermore, it is emphasised that Cucurella is settled in London and is currently not angling for a return to Spain at this point in his career.

That is despite him beginning his career at Barcelona and having previously spent time with Eibar and Getafe.

His solitary outing for Barcelona came in 2017-18 when he made a seven-minute appearance in a Copa del Rey tie against Real Murcia.

Why would Barcelona, Real Madrid be interested?

Barcelona already have two strong options at left-back in Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martin, although selling either of the pair would bring in pure profit.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have reached a point where acquiring a new left-back is becoming imperative, partly due to the injury issues of David Alaba.

The same can be said of Ferland Mendy, while Fran Garcia is viewed as someone who they would be prepared to replace should the right opportunity arrive.

At this point, Chelsea would not consider a change in stance unless they were able to make a profit on Cucurella, something that is viewed highly unlikely.
