Barcelona president Joan Laporta indicates that the La Liga leaders currently have no intention of making any new signings in January.

President Joan Laporta has indicated that Barcelona have no plans to make any signings during the January transfer window.

The financial problems of the Catalan giants over the past 18 months have been well-documented, the issues proving pivotal in the departure of Lionel Messi in 2021.

However, they have not hindered Barcelona in the transfer market with as many as 10 notable additions being made during the calendar year.

Barcelona have been required to sell future income from television revenue and a percentage of Barcelona Studios in order to meet the necessary regulations, but their situation has changed for the better in recent weeks.

The surprise retirement of Gerard Pique has freed up significant space on the wage bill, creating leeway for the La Liga giants to make signings should they so wish at the turn of the year.

Nevertheless, as it stands, Laporta has insisted that they are not planning for any incomings while Xavi's team are sitting in first place in Spain's top flight.

Speaking to Sport, Laporta said: "Now we are in the 1:1 rule, but in the summer we will be back in the 1:4 rule. If we had to sign someone, it would be convenient to do it in winter, but we have a very competitive team.

"We are the club that has the most footballers at the World Cup (17). It shows a job well done and is clear proof that Xavi is doing a great job.

Laporta added: "We do not plan to do anything in January, unless there were unforeseen circumstances that we have to resolve. In principle we don't have to do anything now, because we already worked in the summer with the 'levers', which allowed us to make a very competitive team.

"We are satisfied with how the season is going, despite the slip in the Champions League."

The 1:1 rule means that Barcelona are now able to commit 100% to what they save to their wage bill. In the summer, they had only been able to commit 25%, subsequently resulting in revenue being generated by 'economical levers'.

Barcelona went into the break for the World Cup having recorded five wins in succession, ensuring that they opened up a two-point lead over champions and rivals Real Madrid.

Over the weekend, it was suggested that Barcelona intend to use the upcoming period to resolve any outstanding matters with regards to contracts.

Due to his emergence under Xavi, one of the priorities is Alejandro Balde, the young full-back already making 16 outings this term and earning a call-up to Spain's squad for Qatar.
