Rangers reportedly become the latest club to express an interest in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Patrick Cutrone.

Rangers have reportedly identified Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Patrick Cutrone as a potential summer transfer target.

Head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst has already brought a number of fresh faces to Ibrox since the end of last season, including Croatian striker Antonio Colak.

Several other players for the final third have also been signed with Tom Lawrence being brought in to take the place of Joe Aribo, who has departed for Southampton.

Nevertheless, according to Calciomercato, Rangers are regarded as one of the frontrunners to secure a deal for Cutrone over the coming weeks.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Empoli, making a total of 15 starts and 13 substitute appearances as the newly-promoted club comfortably avoided relegation from Serie A.

Although Cutrone only contributed three goals, his strikes helped Empoli to victories over Salernitana and Napoli, with his final effort coming in a 1-1 draw with the former on May 14.

While Cutrone has since returned to Wolves, it is accepted that the Italian frontman does not feature in the plans of head coach Bruno Lage.

With less than 12 months remaining on his contract, the report claims that an array of Italian sides are contemplating whether to make an approach for the player.

However, Rangers, along with Celta Vigo, are said to be regarded as the most likely destination for a player who cost in the region of £16.2m in 2019.

Despite that financial outlay, Cutrone has contributed just two goals from 314 minutes of Premier League football, his other strike coming in an EFL Cup tie against Aston Villa.

If Celta were to be successful with any proposal for Cutrone, it is suggested that the transfer would be on a permanent deal.

The La Liga outfit are currently in the market for competition for Iago Aspas as they bid to improve on last season's 11th-placed finish.

Cutrone spent the second half of 2020-21 with Valencia, making just seven substitute outings in Spain's top flight.
