Marseille chief Basile Boli reveals that the club held talks with Cristiano Ronaldo over a potential move during the summer transfer window.

Marseille chief Basile Boli has revealed that the club held talks with Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer transfer window.

Ronaldo is currently a free agent following his departure from Manchester United, in what was a turbulent spell at Old Trafford for the Portuguese international during the opening months of the season.

With no confirmation of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's next move, Boli has now revealed that the Portuguese international held talks during the summer transfer window over a potential move to France.

"Cristiano Ronaldo was in talks with Olympique [Marseille], I think he should have come," he told NW Sport.

"He is a talented player, even if he is a bit old, I think that in the French championship he still has something to give.

"We saw that, for Messi, it didn't work out in the first year and then in the second year he proved he was number one."

The 37-year-old forward struggled under Erik ten Hag with only four starts in the Premier League and only managed three goals across his 16 appearances in all competitions.

It was certainly a far cry from his form last season when he scored 24 goals in all competitions, which included 18 in the league.

Currently, Ronaldo is struggling to find a new club, with reports claiming that several clubs have turned down the chance to sign the former Real Madrid forward.
