Manchester United could reportedly sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko for a fee in the region of €70m (£61m) during this summer's transfer window.
The Red Devils want to bring a new forward to the club ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, and they have missed out on Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres, with the Sweden international on the verge of joining Arsenal.
Sesko has also been linked with Arsenal this summer, while Man United are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old, who has scored 39 goals and registered eight assists in 87 appearances for Leipzig in all competitions.
According to German journalist Christian Falk, Man United's head of scouting Christopher Vivell is "supporting the potential deal", with the Red Devils emerging as genuine suitors for the striker.
The 20-time English champions would allegedly have to come up with an offer in the region of €70m (£61m) to sign him during this summer's transfer window.
Man United 'in the mix' for Leipzig striker Sesko
“When one door closes, another opens! Arsenal have withdrawn their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, which creates an opportunity for Manchester United,” Falk told CaughtOffside.
“The Red Devils weren’t in the front row for the club and player. However, there’s a key executive involved in all of this – Christopher Vivell, United’s head of scouting.
"He’s previously worked for RB Leipzig, and he’s now supporting the potential deal. Vivell’s also been watching the situation develop since April. He was at the match between Leipzig and Wolfsburg to scout Sesko again.
"The striker (22) is still very, very young. He can leave with a good offer; I think Leipzig are willing to talk if they receive a fee closer to €70m [£61m].”
Which other strikers are on Man United's radar?
Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson are also being linked with moves to Old Trafford, with both believed to be genuine options for the 20-time English champions.
Watkins would allegedly cost in the region of £60m, while Chelsea have allegedly placed a valuation of £100m on Jackson, but Alejandro Garnacho could be used in a potential swap deal.
Both Watkins and Jackson are proven in the Premier League, but at 29, the former is not a long-term option for the 20-time English champions, who are currently in the United States on a pre-season tour.
