Former Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon wants Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward to come together and work out their issues for the good of the club.

Former Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon has urged Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward to come together and work out their issues for the good of the club.

Kenyon took up the role of deputy CEO at his boyhood team in 1997, where he sat on the board of directors, and was promoted to chief executive in 2000 following the departure of Martin Edwards.

The Red Devils have failed to land the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, however, and Kenyon has noticed how Mourinho has appeared unhappy in pre-season.

"He is more than capable - one of the best coaches in the world - but have they got it right? No," the former Chelsea director told BBC Sport. "I think the first people to recognise that will be the people at United.

"They have to work it out and they'll find a way of working it out. United is bigger than anybody, bigger than any individual and that's always been the mantra. It will get worked out and I would hope Jose is part of that working it out because he is incredibly skilled and he's demonstrated he can do things."

United will open their 2018-19 Premier League campaign at home to Leicester City on August 10.
