Leeds United have reportedly signalled their intent to sign one of Strasbourg's star players during the summer transfer window.
The Yorkshire giants are currently preparing to return to the Premier League after winning the 2024-25 Championship title.
In recent weeks, it has been suggested that as many as 10 new players could arrive at Elland Road as Daniel Farke attempts to avoid relegation from England's top flight for the first time in his career.
As it stands, no fresh faces have arrived, but supporters will be anticipating a number of deals being successfully negotiated in due course.
According to L'Equipe, Leeds have made a €26m (£21.88m) offer to try to tempt Strasbourg into selling Habib Diarra.
Leeds make ambitious move
Aston Villa had been linked with a move for the versatile midfielder before they failed to secure Champions League qualification.
The 21-year-old has just contributed four goals and five assists from 30 appearances in Ligue 1 to help Strasbourg secure Conference League football for next season.
Having come through the academy system to make over 100 appearances for the club, Diarra is viewed as a key man in Liam Rosenior's squad.
Nevertheless, interest is naturally building in a player who is also a four-cap Senegal international.
Strasbourg remain in a strong position to retain his services, however, with three years still remaining on his contract.
Why Strasbourg may resist offers
While Strasbourg owners BlueCo will judge every offer individually, they will also not want to significantly weaken their squad ahead of attempting to win the Conference League.
Central defender Mamadou Sarr has already left to join Chelsea, albeit there being a possibility that he could ultimately return on loan depending on whether he impresses at the upcoming Club World Cup.
Being under the same ownership banner means that three Chelsea could be loaned to Strasbourg, as they were last season, to strengthen their squad.
That said, the goals, assists, versatility and leadership - as club captain - means that Diarra is arguably irreplacable at this stage of Strasbourg's development.
