Manchester City are reportedly set to step up their efforts to sign Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki.
The 21-year-old was involved for France in the UEFA Nations League finals this week, with the 2018 World Cup winners picking up a bronze medal in the competition.
Cherki has been linked to Man City for some time now, with a switch to the blue side of Manchester for the attacker expected by transfer experts.
The youngster has enjoyed a stellar campaign for Lyon in the top flight, scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists across 30 Ligue 1 contests.
Since graduating from the club's youth academy in October 2019, Cherki has featured on 185 occasions for Les Gones, scoring 29 goals.
Man City submit improved Cherki bid?
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are moving towards the signing of Cherki during the summer transfer window.
After seeing initial bids for the 21-year-old turned down, it is understood that the Citizens are preparing to submit an improved offer for the player.
Man City and Lyon are supposedly in direct contact over a proposed deal, with Cherki set to depart Ligue 1 for the first time in his career.
It is believed that the two-time France international is keen on a switch to the Etihad, where he would benefit from the tutelage of head coach Pep Guardiola.
Due to his impressive performances at Lyon in recent years, Cherki has also been linked to the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal in the past.
Man City's 2025-26 mission
After four straight titles between 2021 and 2024, Manchester City relinquished the Premier League crown to rivals Liverpool during the 2024-25 campaign.
In truth, the Citizens were no match for Arne Slot's Reds, who cantered to the top-flight title in the end with minimal fuss and plenty of celebrations.
With Kevin De Bruyne departing the club, Man City are in need of creative reinforcements, with Lyon star Cherki fitting that bill excellently.
