Youri Tielemans has left the door open to leaving Aston Villa during the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old has spent the last two seasons in the West Midlands having arrived from Leicester City on a free transfer.
With eight goals and 18 assists from 99 matches in all competitions, the Belgium international has developed into one of Unai Emery's most trusted players.
However, Villa's alleged position with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability regulations means that at least one high-profile exit could materialise.
Tielemans, in theory, falls into the category of someone who could prove an attractive option to sell courtesy of being acquired for nothing, Villa able to make pure profit if he moves elsewhere.
Tielemans speaks on future
Currently on international duty, Tielemans was quizzed on his future over the weekend, Villa in a position where they need to have their accounts in order by June 30.
Although Tielemans has acknowledged that he is enjoying representing Villa and playing under Emery, he has left the door open to a new challenge.
As quoted by Sudinfo, Tielemans said: "Of course, I was able to score five goals and provide 10 assists this season. But I was also influential in my team’s play. I’ve been consistent and I think I’ve improved throughout the season.
He added: "There’s nothing definitive or ruled out about whether I’ll stay or leave. But I feel good at Aston Villa; I feel a lot of confidence from the club and the manager."
What will Villa fans make of Tielemans comments?
In most cases, Villa supporters would be left frustrated if one of their players - particular one of the importance of Tielemans - was hinting that leaving the club is possible.
However, this is a complex situation not helped by Villa failing to qualify for the Champions League, and selling the playmaker is a realistic possibility.
Club officials have a desire to eventually strengthen the squad and generating anywhere between £35m and £50m on their books would aid their efforts considerably.
Tielemans also has just two years left on his contract, another important factor in this equation.
Over the weekend, Villa were linked with a move for Reims youngster Valentin Atangana, someone who possesses different attributes to Tielemans but who is a prospect who could be signed for a fraction of any fee recouped for the former FA Cup winner.
