Preview: Getafe vs. Real Valladolid - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's La Liga clash between Getafe and Real Valladolid, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Getafe welcome Real Valladolid to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez for the La Liga clash between two sides sitting in the bottom half of the table.

Two wins on the bounce have taken Getafe out of the relegation zone, but Valladolid know that a win by two or more goals will see them leapfrog their opponents.

Getafe come into this match on the back of successive wins, with their most recent victory coming away at an Osasuna side that went into the match with 12 points from their opening five games.

Goals in either half from Juan Iglesias and Gaston Alvarez were enough to take all three points from the El Sadar Stadium, and having gone into the game winless in four La Liga outings, consecutive wins over Real Sociedad and Osasuna could spark an upturn in form for Getafe.

The home form of Quique Sanchez Flores's side has been mixed so far; an opening-day 3-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid was followed up with a 0-0 draw against Villarreal, before picking up their first win of the season in front of their own fans by beating Real Sociedad 2-1.

Getafe do have a solid spine to their team, so conceding five at Valencia and 12 for the season so far is a cause for concern. With the likes of David Soria in goal, and Nemanja Maksimovic and Mauro Arambarri in midfield, it is a surprise to see Getafe concede as many goals as they have so far.

One thing that has not helped Getafe in defending is their disciplinary problem; they have received three red cards already this season, and games involving Getafe have seen five red cards brandished.

Valladolid's start to the season has been difficult to say the least, with the newly-promoted side losing their opening game 3-0 at home to Unai Emery's Villarreal.

Despite drawing 0-0 against Sevilla in their first away game of the season, that was followed up by a crushing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona.

Valladolid have since beaten Almeria courtesy of a Shon Weissman injury-time goal, before losing to Girona and Cadiz – on both occasions by just one goal.

If Valladolid are to fight off a relegation scrap a lot will depend on star striker Weissman, who scored 20 goals in 38 appearances in the second division last season, so it will be interesting to see how he adapts to life in La Liga going forward.

Team News

Enes Unal celebrates scoring for Getafe in February 2022© Reuters

Enes Unal is the only player likely to miss the game through injury for Getafe, after picking up an injury earlier in the week.

Unal was involved in Turkey's 3-3 draw against Luxembourg last week and rumours are that he could miss out here.

Midfielder Carles Alena is one booking away from a suspension, though, having already received four yellow cards in just six appearances this season.

Valladolid have a few more injury matters to contend with, including Luis Perez, who is expected to be out of action until after the World Cup through injury.

Midfielder Anuar Tuhami also faces a lengthy spell in the treatment room, having sustained a cruciate ligament injury last week.

Sergio Asenjo is another player missing through injury, as the goalkeeper is recovering from a fractured finger sustained last month, although he is expected to be back in training next month.

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Suarez, Duarte, Mitrovic, Alvarez, Angileri; Alena, Algobia, Maksimovic; Unal, Mayoral

Real Valladolid possible starting lineup:
Asenjo; Fresneda, Fernandez, Sanchez, Olaza; Mesa, Monchu, Perez; Plata, Plano, Weissman

We say: Getafe 1-0 Real Valladolid

Two wins on the bounce will have buoyed Getafe heading into this fixture, and although they have already conceded 12 goals this season, Valladolid's return of three goals from six games shows how much they have struggled at the other end of the pitch.
