Ipswich Town vs. Brentford: Head-to-head record and past meetings

Ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash between Ipswich and Brentford, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two clubs.

Brentford travel to Portman Road to take on already-relegated Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Bees are still harbouring hopes of qualifying for Europe for the first time in their history and a run of three successive wins, including last weekend's 4-3 thriller over Manchester United, has pushed them up to ninth in the table, just one point behind Bournemouth in eighth spot.

As for Ipswich, they are merely playing for pride in their remaining three top-flight fixtures and will be seeking to avoid losing an eighth straight home match this weekend.

Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two sides.

Head-to-head record

Previous meetings: 19
Ipswich wins: 7
Draws: 6
Brentford wins: 6

Ipswich Town and Brentford have faced each other a total of 19 times across all competitions and it is the Tractor Boys who marginally lead the overall head-to-head record having posted seven wins to the Bees' six, while there have also been six draws played out between the two clubs.

Their very first meeting took place back in November 1955 when Brentford secured a 3-2 home win over Ipswich in the old Division Three South, but the Bees followed that up by failing to win any of their next eight encounters with the Tractor Boys in all competitions.

Indeed, Ipswich won four EFL Cup ties during this period between 1966 and 2004, three in the first round and one in the second round, before the two teams would meet again for the first time in the Championship in the 2014-15 season.

Brentford suffered a 4-2 home defeat to Ipswich in their first Championship encounter in December 2014, but that was only one of two defeats suffered across 10 matches in the second tier (W4 D4).

The Tractor Boys lost 2-0 at Brentford in April 2019 before suffering relegation to the third tier that season, but they bounced back with successive promotions in 2022-23 and 2023-24 to return to the Premier League for the first time in over two decades.

Ipswich and Brentford lock horns in the top flight for the first time in October 2024 and it was the Bees who came out on top in a seven-goal thriller, winning 4-3 at the Getch Community Stadium.
