Sports Mole previews Friday's Danish Superliga clash between Aarhus and Randers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Aarhus and Randers will face off on Friday evening on matchday two of the 2025-26 Danish Superliga season, with both teams coming off opening-day draws.

The hosts drew 1-1 with Sonderjyske Fodbold in their opening match, while the visitors conceded a 97th-minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Vejle in their first game.

Match preview

Aarhus have established themselves as a consistent top half team in the Danish Superliga in recent seasons, finishing inside the top six in five of the last six years.

AGF placed third in 2019-20, fourth in 2020-21, suffered a slip down the standings to 10th in 2021-22, but quickly bounced back with fifth and sixth-placed finishes in the last two campaigns.

Despite recording another top-half finish last term, Aarhus will be disappointed with how their campaign ended, as Uwe Rosler's side were third in the table after the pre-split fixtures, but just one win, one draw and eight losses - including seven consecutive defeats - saw them fall to sixth.

Rosler was sacked following the disastrous end to the season, with former Viborg FF manager Jakob Poulsen appointed to lead AGF into the 2025-26 term.

Poulsen has enjoyed a strong start to life at Aarhus, remaining undefeated in his first five matches in charge, with two wins and two draws in pre-season, followed by a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the Danish Superliga season.

Aiming to extend that streak and secure his first competitive victory in charge of the club, Aarhus will look to defeat Randers for the first time since October 2023.

Randers have drawn two and won two of their last four meetings with AGF, including two 3-1 victories in last year's post-split fixtures, leaving the visitors full of confidence heading into this clash.

However, Randers are coming into Friday's encounter having lost back-to-back pre-season friendlies before drawing 1-1 with Vejle in their opening Danish Superliga fixture - conceding a devastating 97th-minute equaliser.

The Horses will be eager to snap that winless streak against Aarhus on Friday, especially as these two sides are likely to battle for a European place in the Danish Superliga table - having finished just one point and one place apart in the pre-split standings last term.

Randers enjoyed a much more productive post-split campaign, though, as Rasmus Bertelsen's side recorded four wins, one draw and five defeats to finish fourth in the table, eight points clear of Friday's hosts.

Team News

Randers coach Rasmus Bertelsen on August 9, 2024

Aarhus are expected to be without Jacob Andersen until at least October due to a cruciate ligament injury sustained in February, while Youssouph Badji is also unlikely to feature after picking up an injury during pre-season.

Felix Beijmo may also be absent from Friday's matchday squad after the midfielder was forced off with an injury in their Danish Superliga opening fixture, meaning Rasmus Carstensen could start in his place.

Patrick Mortensen and Tobias Bech were Aarhus's top scorers in the Danish Superliga last term, scoring 20 and eight goals respectively, and both should start in attack here.

As for Randers, Paul Izzo was their number one goalkeeper last season, but due to injury and the arrival of Jannich Storch, the latter is expected to start here.

While Randers were unable to secure all three points in their opening match, an encouraging performance for much of the encounter means a similar team could feature here.

Aarhus possible starting lineup:

Wahlstedt; Jensen-Abbew, Tingager, Kahl; Carstensen, Poulsen, Madsen, Links; Bech, Mortensen, Emmery

Randers possible starting lineup:

Storch; Hansen, Hoegh, Dammers, Dyhr; Greve, Romer, Bjorkengren, Themsen; Mahmoud, Toure

We say: Aarhus 1-2 Randers

Aarhus and Randers are both in similar form heading into this game, including each drawing their opening league matches, but given the visitors have dominated this fixture in recent meetings, we believe the away side will win this one.
