Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Ajax over a deal for defender Jorrel Hato.
The 19-year-old is thought to be on the radar of a number of leading clubs in world football following his excellent performances for the Dutch giants during the 2024-25 campaign.
Hato featured on 50 occasions for Ajax during the recent season, scoring three goals and registering six assists in the process, including two goals and six assists in 31 outings in the top flight of Dutch football.
Liverpool and Manchester City are among the clubs to be linked with the Netherlands international, while Arsenal are also said to be interested in signing him during this summer's transfer window.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are now in pole position, with the Blues making club to club contact with Ajax in a bid to win the race for his signature.
Chelsea 'hold club to club talks' with Ajax over Hato
The report claims that Hato is keen to make the move to Chelsea, and personal terms are unlikely to be a problem when it comes to a switch, as he would be in line for a huge wage increase.
The strong relationship between Chelsea and Ajax allegedly means that a deal could be concluded quickly, as the Blues look to sign one of the most highly-rated young players in word football.
Hato has made 111 appearances for Ajax despite the fact that he will not turn 20 until next March, including 17 outings in the Europa League and four appearances in the Conference League.
The defender is also a six-time Netherlands international, and he is expected to be an important player for the national side at the 2026 World Cup, should the country manage to qualify for the tournament.
How many signings have Chelsea made this summer?
Chelsea have made seven signings during this summer's transfer window, including Joao Pedro, who made a big impression for the Blues at the 2025 Club World Cup, as Enzo Maresca's side won the competition.
Jamie Gittens and Liam Delap have also arrived to boost the options in the final third of the field, while Noni Madueke has been the biggest departure, making a surprise switch to Arsenal.
Chelsea are far from finished when it comes to their summer business, with Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho said to be a target, and the Argentina international could potentially be used in a swap deal with Nicolas Jackson.
