Nottingham Forest earn promotion to the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Wembley Stadium.

Nottingham Forest have earned promotion to the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Wembley Stadium.

An own goal from Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill sent Forest into the lead just before half time and the East Midlands outfit were able to hold on during the second 45 minutes.

Huddersfield were unfortunate to be given at least one penalty after the break, Jack Colback and Max Lowe seeming to make contact with Harry Toffolo and Lewis O'Brien respectively without either decision going the Terriers way.

However, Forest largely controlled the contest - Huddersfield not having a single shot on target - even though their only goal came with a slice of good fortune.

James Garner, who may challenge for a spot at Manchester United next season, struck the ball towards goal from 30 yards out, forcing Colwill to divert the ball into the top corner of his own net.

The goal has earned Forest a place back in the Premier League after a 23-year absence, Steve Cooper remarkably taking the club from the bottom of the league to providing them with a chance to re-establish themselves among the elite of English football.
