Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick says that there could be a route into the first team for James Garner next season.

Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has said that there could be a route into the club's first team for James Garner during the 2022-23 campaign.

The 21-year-old has impressed on loan at Nottingham Forest this season, scoring four times and registering six assists in 38 appearances in all competitions for the Championship outfit.

There have been calls for the midfielder to be given the chance to make his mark for the Red Devils next term.

Rangnick will step aside for the arrival of a new head coach at the end of the season, but the German has said that he will be assessing Garner's form "in the next couple of weeks".

"To be honest I haven't seen that many games of Nottingham Forest but I will probably do that in the next couple of weeks with my staff and the analysis team," Rangnick told MUTV.

"I've heard he's scored four goals and had four assists there, but my focus, as you can imagine has been on the current team in the last weeks and months. This is certainly good if players get game time somewhere and do well, and this is the idea behind a loan period."

Garner, who has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2024, has made seven first-team appearances for Man United, including two outings in the Premier League.
