Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insists that Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres remains on course to join Arsenal this summer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has insisted that Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres remains on course to join Arsenal despite being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

On Sunday, Sic Noticias in Portugal claimed that Man United had hijacked Arsenal's move for Gyokeres, with the Red Devils said to be on the verge of an agreement over a deal for the Sweden international.

However, according to Romano, the 27-year-old is still intent on joining Arsenal this summer.

"Viktor Gyokeres maintains his clear position despite links with Man United and more clubs: he wants Arsenal. Total priority to Arsenal project since June and no change of plans with agent Hasan Cetinkaya, on the same page with Gyokeres," read a post from Romano on X.

Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs has also had his say on the situation, claiming that Man United "haven't made a bid" for the striker despite the reports coming out of Portugal.

"Understand Manchester United haven’t made a bid for Viktor Gyokeres and have no plans to do so. Talks remain advanced with Arsenal with a breakthrough expected soon," wrote Jacobs on X.

Man United 'have not made a bid' for Gyokeres

Gyokeres was heavily linked with a move to Man United earlier this summer, with the striker believed to have been the English club's leading target in the final third of the field.

However, Arsenal have recently taken the lead, with the Gunners thought to be on the verge of securing his signature amid complicated negotiations with Sporting.

Arsenal are thought to be willing to pay £55m up front for Gyokeres, but there have been issues when it comes to the add-on payments that Sporting are looking to secure for the striker.

Gyokeres has refused to return to pre-season training with Sporting, and he is desperate to leave the Portuguese giants before this summer's transfer window closes for business.

Will Arsenal or Man United sign Gyokeres?

Despite the reports on Sunday, Arsenal are seemingly still the red-hot favourites for the centre-forward.

The two clubs are not that far apart when it comes to their valuations of Gyokeres, who is already believed to have agreed personal terms with the Gunners, so a switch might not be far off.

Man United, like Arsenal, are determined to sign a new striker this summer, with the club's goalscoring issues again on display during Saturday's pre-season friendly against Leeds United, which finished goalless.
