Sports Mole previews Sunday's Norwegian Eliteserien clash between Tromso IL and Bryne, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Tromso IL will be targeting an eighth consecutive victory when they welcome Bryne to the Romssa Arena for Sunday’s Eliteserien contest.

The visitors will also be keen to continue their fine run of form, having avoided defeat in each of their last seven league matches.

Match preview

Tromso made an underwhelming start to the 2025 Eliteserien season, winning just one of their opening five matches (D1, L3).

However, they have since put together an impressive eight-game winning run to put themselves in the Eliteserien title picture.

They looked to have spurned the chance to take three points from their most recent outing against Stromsgodset, as Runar Norheim saw his early brace cancelled out by goals from Jesper Taaje and Marko Farji.

As it proved, Leo Cornic provided one final twist to an entertaining affair, netting a 96th-minute winner to keep his side in third place in the standings.

Tromso may be sitting eight points adrift of leaders Viking, but crucially, they boast three games in hand over the table-toppers, ensuring that they can dream of mounting a push to win their first-ever Eliteserien title.

They will be determined to continue their red-hot form in their first clash against Bryne since 2014, with the hosts looking to end a three-game winless run in head-to-head meetings.

While Tromso are targeting silverware, Bryne’s main objective will be to avoid an immediate return to the second tier after winning promotion via a second-placed finish last season.

Ole Kevin Knappen’s side made a slow start to the campaign, losing five of their opening six top-flight matches (W1).

After taking time to adapt to the Eliteserien, Bryne has since embarked on a seven-game unbeaten league run, which started with three successive wins over Stromsgodset, Fredrikstad and Sandefjord.

They went on to play out three consecutive draws, before returning to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory in last Sunday’s home clash with Valerenga, thanks to Alfred Scriven’s 76th-minute effort.

As a result of their fine form, Bryne are sitting in 10th place with 18 points to their name, giving them a five-point buffer to the bottom three.

They will be looking to add three points to their tally on Sunday, but that will be easier said than done against a tough opponent, especially as the visitors have won just one of their six away league games this season (D2, L3).

Team News

Tromso remain without the services of forward August Mikkelsen, who has missed the last three matches through injury.

David Edvardsson should return to the midfield after serving a one-match ban for an accumulation of yellow cards.

Ieltsin Camoes and Vegard Erlien should continue to operate as the front two, having scored 11 league goals between them this season.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon the injured duo of Sjur Torgersen Jonassen and Andre-Remi Svindland.

Goalkeeper Jan de Boer should return between the posts after completing a one-match suspension for his dismissal in the 1-1 draw with KFUM.

Full-back Lasse Qvigstad is pushing for a starting spot after featuring as a half-time substitute in the recent win over Valerenga.

Tromso IL possible starting lineup:

Haugaard; Skjaervik, Guddal, Kinteh; Cornic, Hjerto-Dahl, Jenssen, Edvardsson, Norheim; Camoes, Erlien

Bryne possible starting lineup:

De Boer; Qvigstad, Haahr, Husebo, Saunes; Scriven, Sodal, Strunck, Thornes; Moreira, Bojadzic

We say: Tromso IL 2-0 Bryne

Tromso will be full of confidence after winning each of their last eight league matches, and while Bryne have proven to be a tough team to beat in recent times, we believe that they will be outclassed by their formidable hosts.
