Gary Neville believes his former side Manchester United must improve tactically as a team if they are to avoid another shock result, following their 1-0 loss to Aston Villa last weekend.

The Red Devils have suffered disappointing defeats in three of their last four matches across all competitions, losing to Young Boys in their Champions League opener and against West Ham United in the EFL Cup prior to their defeat against Villa.

Neville had been optimistic regarding United's potential success this campaign, though the 46-year-old has now questioned their ability to win the Premier League title.

"I said it when they were winning and when Cristiano Ronaldo was scoring, they don't play well enough as a team to win this league in my view," the Englishman said on the Gary Neville podcast.

"You need to be a unit in possession and out of possession - and when you only deliver in moments, those moments won't go for you in certain games. You need patterns of play, you need a way of playing and I still see a group of individuals playing in moments, with some patterns and combinations.

"[They are] still a team that's new together, but they've got to come together and find a style of play. Then you get results when you don't play well. The way they are at the moment, they'll always have days like that yesterday (against Aston Villa)."

Man United are now preparing for Wednesday night's Champions League clash against Villarreal, who beat them 11-10 on penalties to win the Europa League final last season.
