Manchester United reportedly set two unwanted club records in Friday's 1-0 Premier League defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Manchester United broke two unwanted records in Friday's narrow 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Marc Cucurella scored the decisive goal in the 71st minute to condemn Man United to their 18th league loss of the season.

Man United boss Ruben Amorim has now overseen 14 defeats in 26 Premier League matches (W6, D6) since he took over the reins from Erik ten Hag in November.

As a result of their dismal season, the Red Devils are languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table with just one match left to play.

Man United set two unwanted records

To make matters worse for Man United, they set two unwanted club records with the disappointing result against Enzo Maresca's side.

Man United will complete the season without recording back-to-back wins for the first time in a Premier League season.

They have not claimed consecutive league victories since they beat Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion in the final two games of the 2024-25 campaign.

Meanwhile, they have also failed to win eight consecutive Premier League matches for the first time in the club's history.

They have drawn three and lost five of their previous eight top-flight matches since they swept past Leicester City via a 3-0 scoreline on March 16.

Friday's result also represented their third straight Premier League loss and the 15th time that they have failed to score in the top flight this season - only Leicester have failed to score in more.

Man United turn focus to Europa League final

While their Premier League campaign may go down as a monumental failure, Man United could still salvage Champions League qualification by winning the Europa League.

The Red Devils will travel to Bilbao for Wednesday's showdown with fellow Premier Legaue strugglers Tottenham Hotspur, who are a point behind Man United in 17th place following Friday's defeat to Aston Villa.

Man United are bidding to win the Europa League for the second time in their history after previously achieving the feat under Jose Mourinho in 2016-17.

As for Amorim, the upcoming final gives him the chance to win the first European trophy of his coaching career.
