Conflicting reports emerge over the future of Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim, who is allegedly on a 'collision course' with Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Conflicting reports have emerged surrounding Ruben Amorim's future at Manchester United following the Red Devils' latest embarrassing result in the Premier League.

Guaranteed to finish the season with their lowest-ever points total in the competition, Man United were condemned to their 17th loss of the Premier League season in Sunday's 2-0 home reverse to West Ham United.

Amorim has now overseen a seven-game winless run in the English top division, form which has seen the 20-time top-flight champions drop into a chastening 16th place in the Premier League table.

Man United can only finish the season with a maximum of 45 points, and Amorim recently suggested that he could walk away from the job if the club's situation remains dire in 2025-26.

However, the Red Devils could still end a disastrous campaign on an extremely high note, as victory over Tottenham Hotspur in next Wednesday's Europa League final would punch their ticket to the Champions League.

Man United 'to review' Amorim's position in summer

Even if Man United can conquer the continent's second-tier tournament, The Mirror claims that Old Trafford chiefs - including Sir Jim Ratcliffe - will be reviewing Amorim's position in the summer.

Ratcliffe, chief executive Omar Berrada and other members of the board are expected to run the rule over the 40-year-old, who has overseen 16 wins, eight draws and 15 losses from his opening 39 games in charge.

The report suggests that Amorim may have put himself on a 'collision course' with the powers-that-be thanks to his striking comments in the aftermath of the West Ham defeat, and his positive working relationship with Ratcliffe could now be affected.

While the Man United hierarchy believe that the Red Devils not playing in Europe is not an option due to the club's financial situation, Amorim and his team are apparently of the view that a season without continental football could have major benefits domestically.

Arsenal memorably failed to qualify for any form of European football for the 2021-22 season, just missing out on Champions League football that year before challenging for the title in the next two seasons.

Man United 'will not review' Amorim's position in summer

On the other hand, a separate report from talkSPORT claims that Old Trafford executives do not have any 'immediate plans' to hold an internal review over Amorim's position at the Theatre of Dreams.

The former Sporting Lisbon boss is still under contract at the club for another two years, and unless he resigns from his post, any termination would force Man United to cough up a severance package.

The Red Devils already forked out a total of £14.5m to sever ties with Amorim's predecessor Erik ten Hag, as well as members of his coaching team and ex-sporting director Dan Ashworth.

At the same time, Ratcliffe has imposed numerous cost-cutting measures affecting the club's workforce, overseeing an initial 250 redundancies followed by plans to cut another 200 jobs earlier this year.
