Scottish giants Rangers have reportedly failed with an offer to sign Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Sheffield United, chipping in with seven goals and two assists in 36 Championship games, and he is now facing an uncertain future at Selhurst Park.
Rak-Sakyi is believed to be weighing up his options ahead of a likely summer exit from Palace where he has only made 10 senior appearances since his debut in August 2021.
Recent reports claimed that Russell Martin’s former side Southampton have gained an advantage over Rangers in the race to sign the England Under-21 international.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have also been credited with an interest in Rak-Sakyi, who has two years remaining on his Crystal Palace contract.
However, it appears that Rangers have made the first move to sign Rak-Sakyi, as The Athletic claims that they have seen an initial loan offer with a potential obligation to buy for up to £10m rejected by Palace.
Rangers eye Rak-Sakyi as eighth summer signing under Martin
The report adds that Rangers’ pursuit of the winger remains ongoing despite failing with their opening offer, but there is interest from clubs elsewhere.
As things stand, it remains unclear as to whether Rak-Sakyi would prefer a move to Scotland or would be willing to stay in England, either in the Premier League or the Championship, but assurances of regular first-team football are thought to be key when making a decision on his future.
Rangers have experienced a busy summer transfer window since the arrival of new head coach Martin, with seven new players having already arrived at Ibrox.
Six of those have been signed from English clubs, with Martin having already raided the Championship to sign highly-rated Sheffield Wednesday winger Djeidi Gassama, who scored on his debut in a 2-0 win over Panathinaikos in Champions League second-round qualifying on Tuesday.
Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell (both from Bournemouth) and Nasser Djiga (Wolves) have arrived at Rangers from the Premier League, while Thelo Aasgaard and Emmanuel Fernandez have joined the Gers from League One pair Luton Town and Peterborough United respectively.
While Southampton could match Rangers by submitting an offer of their own for Rak-Sakyi, it remains to be seen as to whether Wolves will do the same now that they have completed the signing of Jhon Arias from Fluminense.
