Chelsea reportedly learn what fee may potentially be required to secure a summer deal for Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Chelsea are reportedly aware of the fee that they may need to pay to sign Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Throughout the 2024-25 campaign, the goalkeeping situation at Stamford Bridge has been a hot topic for debate, a consequence of the form of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.

However, despite making some glaring errors between the sticks, Sanchez has retained the backing of Enzo Maresca who has also continued to select Jorgensen in Conference League ties.

With Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders also part of the goalkeeping setup at the West Londoners, the club are not short of options ahead of next season.

Nevertheless, as per BILD, Chelsea remain interested in negotiating terms for Kobel over the coming weeks.

What are Kobel terms?

The report suggests that representatives of the stopper are in dialogue with Chelsea officials to determine whether a deal is possible.

A fee of €60m (£50.98m) has been suggested, with Dortmund's stance on a sale potentially dependent on whether they qualify for the Champions League.

As it stands, Niko Kovac's side sit in sixth position in the Bundesliga table, three points adrift of fourth position albeit having collected 13 points from their last five games.

Kobel - who has racked up 161 appearances for Dortmund since 2021 - is said to be eager to continue playing at European football's top table having already racked up 35 outings in the competition.

Despite the 27-year-old remaining committed to Dortmund and being on a contract until 2028, the Switzerland international is said to be open to a new challenge.

Is a deal realistic?

If Chelsea are to consider moving for Kobel at the end of the season, it is realistic to expect player sales to have to take place beforehand.

The West Londoners could potentially make a profit on Petrovic with the Serbia international having enhanced his reputation on loan at Strasbourg.

A significant loan fee may also be generated for Jorgensen, theoretically leaving Sanchez to battle it out for Kobel for the number-one spot.

Chelsea will also hope to further bolster their coffers with the sale of Kepa Arrizabalaga, getting the high-earning Spaniard off their wage bill.
