After five years away, Charlton Athletic are back in the Championship, sealing their return for the 2025-26 season in dramatic fashion.

Led by Nathan Jones, who delivered promotion at the first time of asking, the Addicks battled their way through the League One playoffs to complete a memorable campaign.

Charlton finished fourth on 85 points and edged past Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 over two legs in the semi-finals, before repeating that scoreline at Wembley to see off Leyton Orient and secure their place in the second tier.

With promotion secured, attention at the Valley has quickly turned to the challenge ahead, and Jones is looking to put together a squad capable of avoiding dropping straight back into the third tier of English football, which will be the main goal for the coming season.

Seven new players have arrived at Charlton so far this summer, with three of those actually arriving from Luton Town, while Sonny Carey has made the switch following the expiration of his contract at Blackpool.

Charlton have not managed to secure any transfer fees for the players that have left, and the loan market could be important for the club in the latter stages of the transfer window.

The Addicks are working towards the start of the 2025-26 Championship campaign, with their season beginning at home to Watford on August 9.

Jones' side will then immediately switch their attention to the EFL Cup and a clash with Stevenage, before ending the month of August with league fixtures against Bristol City, Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers.
