Sports Mole previews Friday's Norwegian Eliteserien clash between Sarpsborg 08 and Rosenborg, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Rosenborg will be aiming to make it successive wins in the Eliteserien when they continue their campaign with an away fixture against Sarpsborg 08 on Friday.

The visitors are currently fourth in the Eliteserien table, two points behind third-placed Tromso, while Sarpsborg are sixth, five points behind their opponents with two games in hand.

Sarpsborg have a record of five wins, six draws and two defeats from their 13 league matches this season, with a total of 21 points leaving them in sixth spot in the table.

Christian Michelsen's side will bring a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions into this match, including a goalless draw with Kristiansund in the league last time out.

Sarpsborg have lost just once in Norway's top flight since the end of April, and they have two games in hand on Rosenborg, having only taken to the field on 13 occasions in the league this term.

The hosts have won two, drawn two and lost two of their six league fixtures in front of their own fans this season, while Rosenborg have collected 10 points from their seven matches on their travels.

Rosenborg will enter this match off the back of a 2-0 victory over HamKam, which proved to be their first success in Norway's top flight since the end of May.

Alfred Johansson's side remain fourth in the table, two points behind third-placed Tromso, but they are now 10 points behind the leaders Viking.

The Trondheim outfit are Norway's most successful team in terms of top-flight titles, having lifted the trophy on 26 occasions, with their last success coming in 2018.

However, Rosenborg have finished ninth and fourth in their last two campaigns, so they are currently going through a tough period, and a title challenge this season again looks to be unlikely.

Rosenborg have not actually beaten Sarpsborg in the league since September 2021, with the latter winning four of their last five meetings in Norway's top flight.

Team News

Sarpsborg will be without the services of Aimar Sher and Anders Hiim through injury on Friday, but the home side have not reported any fresh fitness concerns.

There are not expected to be any surprises in the home side's XI here, with Daniel Karlsbakk, who has scored 13 times in 15 appearances this season, again featuring through the middle.

Meanwhile, there will be another spot in midfield for Harald Tangen, who has scored twice and registered one assist in 17 outings during the current campaign.

As for Rosenborg, Noah Sahsah will be missing through injury, but the visitors are otherwise in strong shape.

Noah Holm has scored 11 times in 18 appearances this season, and he will feature in the final third of the field, while there will also be a spot in the side for Dino Islamovic.

Sverre Nypan is not currently being used, though, amid the speculation surrounding his future, and it is again expected that the in-demand 18-year-old will be left out of the squad for this match.
