Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist is reportedly not short of interest ahead of a likely exit from Stamford Bridge.
Under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino, the academy graduate racked up 17 appearances in all competitions, including netting a Premier League goal against Everton.
However, since Enzo Maresca's arrival last summer, Gilchrist has been deemed surplus to requirements and spent 2024-25 on loan at Sheffield United.
A total of 30 appearances were made in the Championship, the 21-year-old also contributing two assists, as he enhanced his reputation during the Blades' near miss with promotion.
Nevertheless, with a year left on his contract, Gilchrist will almost certainly be departing Stamford Bridge over the coming weeks.
Which Championship clubs want Chelsea defender?
According to sports broadcaster Ben Jacobs, who was commenting on X, four Championship teams have registered an interest in Gilchrist.
Derby County, Watford, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers are all said to be keen to agree a season-long loan deal.
As it stands, though, Chelsea officials are only prepared to give the green light to a sale, with Gilchrist's asking price said to be £5m.
If Chelsea were to consider a loan later in the transfer window, they would require Gilchrist to extend his contract past 2026.
Will Chelsea change Gilchrist stance?
Given his homegrown status, Chelsea will ensure that Gilchrist does not leave on a free transfer in a little under 12 months time.
Gilchrist may recognise that he has little future at his boyhood club now that they have won the Club World Cup and that there are too many options at right-back.
As a result, compromises may have to be reached, even if Chelsea have to lower their valuation before the start of September.
Many Championship teams could opt against paying £5m for Gilchrist, yet others will take encouragement from the player having established himself as first choice in a team that competed for automatic promotion through last season.
