A promising 2024-25 campaign ended in disappointing fashion for Bristol City, as they were comfortably beaten 6-0 on aggregate in the Championship playoff semi-finals by Sheffield United.
The Robins have since said farewell to Liam Manning, who has moved to fellow Championship club Norwich City, and they have appointed Gerhard Struber as their new manager on a three-year deal.
Bristol is the largest city in England yet to host Premier League football, and Struber has arrived at Ashton Gate with high expectations, claiming that his new side are “ready for the next step”, although the 48-year-old has acknowledged that he is "not a dreamer".
The Robins have been relatively busy during this summer's transfer window, bringing in four players, with the attacking positions boosted by the arrivals of Emil Riis and Yu Hirakawa.
Meanwhile, experienced goalkeeper Joe Lumley has arrived, in addition to Adam Randell, with the 24-year-old a fairly substantial signing from Plymouth Argyle - the club paying £750,000 for his signature.
As expected, the majority of the club's exits this summer have been on free transfers, but Taylor Gardner-Hickman's move to Birmingham City has seen them bank a healthy £1.5m.
Bristol City are expected to further boost their squad before the transfer window closes, while there will also be more exits, with the Championship season now just around the corner.
The Robins will open their 2025-26 Championship campaign with a trip to Sheffield United on August 9, before immediately switching their attention to the EFL Cup and a clash with MK Dons.
Ahead of Bristol City’s 11th consecutive season in the second tier, Sports Mole tracks all of their 2025 summer transfer business.
