The agony of finishing seventh in the 2024-25 Championship season will not be lost on Blackburn Rovers fans or indeed players, who came so close yet to so far to breaching the playoff positions last season.

However, the 1994-95 Premier League champions' exile from the top flight will continue for another year, during which Valerien Ismael will lead a full campaign in charge at Ewood Park for the first time.

The Frenchman has previous when it comes to guiding teams into the top six, having unexpectedly taken Barnsley to the Championship playoffs in the 2020-21 campaign, and he has already bolstered Rovers' midfield ranks in the summer window, so an exciting season could be ahead for the club.

Sidnei Tavares has been Blackburn's biggest acquisition so far, joining for a £2m fee from Portuguese outfit Moreirense, while former KV Kortrijk man Dion de Neve will offer an alternative option out wide following Dilan Markanday's free transfer to Chesterfield.

Blackburn are expected to add more players to their squad before the end of the summer transfer window, and there will also be more departures, as Ismael looks to put together a group capable of pushing again for promotion.

Tavares will add quality to their midfield, while the right-back spot has been strengthened with the arrival of Alebiosu.

De Neve's move is also an interesting one, with the 24-year-old a tricky left-sided player, and he is capable of having a big impact in the Championship next term.

Blackburn are working towards the start of their 2025-26 Championship campaign, with their opening match of the season coming against West Bromwich Albion on August 9.

Rovers will then take on Bradford City in the League Cup on August 12, before resuming their league season with a home fixture against Birmingham City on August 16.
