Manchester United and Leeds United played out a goalless draw in Saturday's pre-season friendly in Sweden, as both sides began their preparations for the 2025-26 campaign.
Leeds shaded the opening 45 minutes, with the newly-promoted Premier League side showing plenty of positive signs, but Man United were the team pushing for the winner in the second period.
Kobbie Mainoo hit the crossbar late on for the 20-time English champions, and both teams were ultimately made to settle for a share of the spoils in the pre-season affair.
SPORTS MOLE'S VERDICT
Well, this is not a pre-season match that will live long in the memory.
In truth, it was a game that lacked major incidents, and neither really did enough to deserve to win, despite the fact that Man United were certainly the team pushing for a goal in the second period.
Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon both made their debuts for Man United, and the duo put in strong performances, while Leeds also had new faces on display, including centre-forward Lukas Nmecha.
Leeds would have taken plenty from the first period, while Man United head coach Ruben Amorim would have been pleased with how his players performed in the second 45 minutes.
Chido Obi started through the middle for the Red Devils before Rasmus Hojlund entered at the break, and it was another demonstration of the club's need to bring in a new centre-forward this summer.
Bryan Mbeumo's pace and power will greatly improve Man United, but they desperately need a top-class striker to lead their line during the 2025-26 campaign.
MAN OF THE MATCH - MATHEUS CUNHA
Cunha showed his class in the opening 45 minutes of the match, with the Brazil international bursting through the Leeds challenges on a number of occasions, and it was a very positive debut for the attacker.
The 26-year-old almost had the chance to score a debut goal when he found himself free inside the Leeds box, but his teammate Obi took the ball away from him to fire wide, with the Whites given a let-off.
