Barcelona vice president Rafa Yuste says that there have been discussions but not yet any negotiations over a potential new contract for head coach Hansi Flick.

Barcelona vice president Rafa Yuste has said that there have been discussions but not yet any negotiations over a potential new contract for head coach Hansi Flick.

Flick took charge of Barcelona last summer, and the 60-year-old has had an excellent campaign with the Catalan outfit, already lifting a trophy, with the team winning the Spanish Super Cup earlier this year.

Barcelona are on for three more trophies before the end of the campaign, sitting four points clear at the top of the La Liga table, while they have advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

There will also be more silverware on offer at the end of this month, with Real Madrid their opponents in the Copa del Rey final.

Flick only penned a two-year deal at Barcelona upon his arrival last year, but it has recently been claimed that the German has agreed a contract extension until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

Flick yet to agree new Barca deal despite recent reports

Yuste has denied that a new contract has already been agreed, but the club's vice president said that discussions had taken place, with Barcelona determined to secure the German's future.

"He signed for two years, his contract ends in 2026. He said the other day that he prefers to go year by year because he does not like long-term contracts. We have not started negotiating his future," Yuste told RAC1.

"There have been discussions, but both he and his wife are very happy in Barcelona. Hansi is beginning to understand what 'Mes que un club' means.

"I want to highlight the partnership between Flick and Deco. I do not want to make comparisons, but it reminds me a lot of the Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain era.

"You suffer because you are so close to it. This is a winning team. With Hansi and his staff, alongside Deco and the rest of the board, we are highly competitive and hungry for titles. Obviously, the goal was to reach the semi-finals, and we achieved that.

"The coaching staff are always seeking excellence, aiming to improve with every match and give the best possible image."

Flick has won 37, drawn six and lost seven of his 50 matches in charge of Barcelona this season, while the Catalan giants have scored an incredible 147 times in all competitions during his time at the helm.

When are Barcelona back in action?

Barcelona suffered a 3-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night, but they still managed to advance to the semi-finals courtesy of a 5-3 aggregate success.

The Catalan giants will now switch their attention back to La Liga, preparing to welcome Celta Vigo on Saturday afternoon, and they will then take on Mallorca in the league next Tuesday before the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid on April 26.
