Arsenal are reportedly planning to step up their pursuit to sign Spain international Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.

Arsenal are reportedly expected to accelerate their move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi following the international window.

The Spain international opted to turn down a move to the Premier League when Liverpool came calling last summer.

After deciding to stay put, Zubimendi went on to make a total of 48 competitive appearances for Real Sociedad in the 2024-25 campaign.

However, it ultimately proved to be a disappointing season for La Real as they fell six points short of European qualification.

With no European football on the table, Zubimendi looks set to leave his boyhood club this summer despite having two years left to run on his contract.

Arsenal ready to step up Zubimendi pursuit

Real Madrid have been linked with a potential move, but Arsenal are believed to be in pole position to secure the midfielder’s signature.

Last month, it was reported that the Gunners have agreed to pay the £51m release clause in Zubimendi’s Real Sociedad contract.

According to Sky Sports News, Arsenal are planning to ‘accelerate’ their efforts to complete the move after the international window.

The Real Sociedad star is currently in Germany with Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad for the UEFA Nations League finals.

Zubimendi played the full duration of Thursday’s thrilling 5-4 semi-final victory over France at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart.

The 26-year-old will hope to retain his place for Sunday’s final against Portugal in Munich, with La Roja looking to retain the trophy they won in 2023.

As a result, the Gunners will look to complete the final details of the transfer once Zubimendi has completed his participation in the Nations League.

The player has already reached an agreement with Arsenal over personal terms, with a medical likely to be the next step to Zubimendi becoming the newest member of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Zubimendi will strengthen a midfield department that is set to lose Jorginho when his contract officially expires at the end of the month.
