Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly agreed to loan out Bastien Meupiyou for the 2025-26 campaign.
Last summer, the Premier League outfit shelled out in the region of £4.2m to sign the French starlet from Nantes.
With the teenager penning a five-year contract, the expectation was that he would accumulate first-team minutes, either under Gary O'Neil or his eventual successor Vitor Pereira.
Instead, despite having overcome an injury that kept him out for the opening months of the season, Meupiyou remains without a senior debut for Wolves and only nine minutes as a professional.
According to L'Equipe, Wolves will be rectifying the situation by sending the centre-back out on loan to a Portuguese club who that have already conducted business with during the summer transfer window.
Meupiyou in line for Primeira Liga move
The report says that Primeira Liga newcomers Alverca are in line to sign their second Wolves player in the space of a couple of weeks.
Winger Chiquinho has already been allowed to sign for the minnows on a free transfer with Wolves possessing a sell-on clause.
Meupiyou is being sent to Complexo Desportivo FC Alverca for the entirety of the upcoming season, the hope being that he will become first choice in their backline.
During the last campaign, the former France Under-18 international was restricted to 10 appearances in Premier League 2, which included featuring in a 3-1 win over Manchester City and 1-1 draw against Manchester United.
Wolves continue to reduce squad numbers
At a time when Pereira has voiced his frustration at Wolves' transfer business, it is clear that Fosun International are being proactive in finding homes for players who are not in the Portuguese's plans for 2025-26.
Joe Hodge is another Wolves player to move to Portugal, joining Tondela on Friday, and more may follow in due course ahead of major incomings.
Fluminense winger Jhon Arias is due to sign for Wolves at the start of next week having waved goodbye to the supporters of the Brazilian giants on Thursday night.
