Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Gary O'Neil reveals that Pedro Neto is still some way from recovering from a hamstring injury.

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto is still some way from making a return from a hamstring injury.

The Portugal international went into the Premier League fixture against Newcastle United on October 28 as one of the players of the 2023-24 Premier League season.

Neto was able to add a seventh assist of the campaign when setting up Mario Lemina's header in a game that eventually ended in a 2-2 draw.

However, Wolves were handed a huge blow in the final quarter when the playmaker pulled up clutching his hamstring, the fear being that he faced a prolonged period on the sidelines.

Despite Neto being stretchered off, head coach Gary O'Neil hinted that he was optimistic over the recovery period for the 23-year-old.

As it stands, almost a month has passed, leaving supporters to start to anticipate a potential return for Neto in one of the upcoming games.

Ahead of Monday's showdown with Fulham, O'Neil has revealed that Neto is still yet to take part in training, instead undergoing work with the club's fitness staff.

Speaking to reporters, as quoted by the club's official website, O'Neil said: "Pedro won't make Monday. He's got a little bit more work to do. Pedro will stay with the physios and fitness staff for a bit longer.

"There's no exact time frame, but Monday he won't be available. Hopefully it's weeks. It's hard because there'll be tests done, he goes for other check-ups and scans and you're sort of guided by them, how quickly he's healing, but he's healing very well.

"He's probably ahead of where they would have wanted him to be at this point. We're pleased with the progress he's made, but with the nature of the injury, we need to make sure everything's ticked off properly before he's back with the group.

With a trip to Arsenal to come five days later on December 2, the likelihood is that Neto will not be considered for the game at the Emirates Stadium.

Wolves then face two matches in quick succession against Burnley and Nottingham Forest - both at Molineux - before visiting West Ham United on December 17.

While Neto has been heavily linked with a transfer to a bigger club, he recently insisted that he was keen to remain at Molineux in the long term.
