Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered the race to sign Atletico Madrid defender Reinildo Mandava this summer.

There is considerable uncertainty surrounding Tottenham’s managerial situation, with the club yet to make a final decision as to whether to continue with Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian led Spurs to Europa League glory last month to end the club’s 17-year trophy drought, but he also oversaw a disappointing 17th-placed finish in the Premier League.

While it remains to be seen whether Spurs stick with Postecoglou, the North London club will be keen to strengthen their squad no matter who is in the dugout for the 2025-26 campaign.

Spurs may be wary that they may need to find a replacement for left-back Destiny Udogie, who is being linked with a potential move back to Serie A.

Spurs eyeing Reinildo move

According to Africa Foot, Tottenham have identified Atletico’s Reinildo as a potential option to bolster their backline in the summer transfer window.

Reinildo is set to become a free agent once he completes his obligations with Atletico at the Club World Cup in the USA.

However, Spurs will have to fend off competition if they are to win the race to sign the Mozambique international on a free transfer.

The report claims that fellow London clubs Crystal Palace and Fulham are both in the running to secure Reinildo’s signature.

Who is Tottenham's transfer target?

The 31-year-old is set to leave Diego Simeone’s side after making 102 competitive appearances in a three-and-a-half-year stay at the Metropolitano.

Reinildo was not always a guaranteed starter at Atleti, but he did offer the club useful versatility due to his ability to play as a full-back, wing-back or central defender.

Spurs would surely view Reinildo as a candidate to replace Udogie at left-back, although he could provide useful cover at central defence in the event of injuries.

The defender may be open to testing himself in the Premier League after previously playing in Mozambique, Portugal, France and Spain.
