Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to hijack Paris Saint-Germain's pursuit of Bournemouth defender Illia Zabarnyi.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain target Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth.

The Cherries have already lost two key defenders in the current transfer window, including the £50m sale of Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid.

Bournemouth also sold left-back Milos Kerkez to Liverpool, so they will be keen to avoid more important defensive exits before the transfer window shuts on September 1.

However, they are facing a battle to retain the services of Zabarnyi, who has been heavily linked with a move to Champions League winners PSG.

Spurs ready to hijack PSG's Zabarnyi move

The Ligue 1 champions have been involved in negotiations with Bournemouth for a number of weeks, although they are yet to reach an agreement with the south coast side.

Bournemouth are believed to be holding out €70m (£61m), while PSG are reluctant to pay more than €60m (£52m).

With PSG struggling to agree a deal with Bournemouth, Spurs seemingly sense the chance to steal a march on their UEFA Super Cup opponents.

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham could make an effort to hijack PSG's pursuit of the Ukraine international.

The report claims that Thomas Frank's side have 'registered their interest' in signing the Bournemouth defender this summer.

Do Spurs need another centre-back?

Spurs have already recruited three centre-backs in the current transfer window, including the permanent signing of Kevin Danso following a loan stint with the club in the second half of last season.

They have also recruited Japan international Kota Takai, while Lukas Vuskovic has officially arrived in a deal that was initially agreed in 2023.

In addition to those three signings, Frank can call upon Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies, Ashley Phillips and Radu Dragusin as his central defensive options, although the latter is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Given the wealth of options at Frank's disposal, it seems difficult to see Tottenham spending significant funds on a new centre-back unless there is a major departure.

Spurs could potentially view Zabarnyi as a replacement for Romero, who has been linked with a potential move away before the end of the summer transfer window.
