Denzel Dumfries is reportedly attracting interest from several top European clubs, including Manchester City, due to a relatively low release clause.
The 29-year-old right-back, who has been with Inter Milan since 2021, could be on the move this summer. His current contract, which runs until June 2028, includes a release clause set at €25m (£21m). Given his strong form last season – 47 appearances, 11 goals and nine assists – a number of clubs have shown interest, including Manchester City and Barcelona. However, the Spanish side are said to be taking a less aggressive approach than Pep Guardiola’s side.
Another Premier League club has also entered the race. According to journalist Nicolo Schira, Aston Villa are eyeing Dumfries as a potential signing during the current transfer window.
Inter exit on the cards before the end of the month?
City and Villa may have to act quickly, though, as the defender’s release clause is only valid until the end of July. After that date, Inter will be free to demand a higher fee, potentially closer to €35m (£29.5m), which reflects the player’s market value according to Transfermarkt.
Dumfries, formerly of PSV Eindhoven, may also be open to a fresh start amid growing tensions at Inter. The Dutch international recently ‘liked’ a social media post in support of teammate Hakan Calhanoglu following a disagreement with Lautaro Martinez. Calhanoglu has yet to leave the club, despite interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, and Dumfries could be tempted by a move to a more stable dressing room.
With the 31 July deadline fast approaching, Manchester City and Aston Villa could soon clarify their intentions by submitting formal bids.
