Bayern Munich remain keen on signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool after a rejected bid but could turn to a younger, more affordable winger if a deal cannot be agreed.

Bayern Munich have not given up on signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool, despite seeing their first offer rejected. The German champions are reportedly preparing a second bid, although they are not prepared to go beyond a certain financial threshold. Should Liverpool continue to resist, Bayern are ready to turn their attention to alternative targets – with Lyon's Malick Fofana emerging as a potential option.

The Bundesliga giants are in the market for a new left-winger. While the signing of Michael Olise from Crystal Palace has addressed their needs on the right flank, the left side remains an unresolved issue. Leroy Sane has moved to Turkey, Kingsley Coman is expected to leave, and there are doubts over the future of Serge Gnabry. The departures of Thomas Muller and the injury to Jamal Musiala have further reduced Bayern’s attacking options.

Several targets have already rejected Bayern, including Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, who has decided to remain in Spain. Luis Diaz, considered a dream signing by the club, is reportedly interested in a move to Munich and is said to have been offered up to five times his current Liverpool salary.

The Colombian winger is open to joining Bayern, but the German club’s opening offer of €68m (£57.5m) has been turned down. Liverpool are reportedly unwilling to consider a deal for less than €75m (£63.3m). Bayern are reluctant to go that high and are now assessing other options, including younger and less established names.

One such player is Eberechi Eze, who previously formed a strong partnership with Olise at Crystal Palace. However, the England international is believed to prefer a move to Arsenal. As a result, Bayern have begun to consider more affordable and lower-profile alternatives.

Fofana emerges as leading alternative

One of the names under consideration is Malick Fofana from Lyon. The Ligue 1 side are expected to sell several players this summer due to financial difficulties, and Fofana is among their most valuable assets. A move could be possible for around €35m (£29.5m).

The 20-year-old Belgium international impressed last season, notably in the Europa League against Manchester United. A product of Gent’s academy, Fofana scored 11 goals and provided six assists in all competitions. While he is not yet at the level of Diaz or Williams, his potential is clear, and he would represent a significantly cheaper alternative.

However, Bayern are not alone in their interest. Nottingham Forest have also reportedly considered a move for the winger. It remains to be seen whether Fofana is the solution to Bayern’s left-wing problem, but the Bavarians may be forced to act swiftly if their pursuit of Diaz does not progress.
