Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has posted a yawning emoji on his official Twitter page in an apparent dig at the Red Devils for the lack of movement when it comes to his contract situation.

The Spain international only has a contract at Old Trafford until the end of the week, meaning that, as it stands, he will end his long association with the club this summer.

A recent report claimed that Man United had initially come to an agreement with De Gea over a new deal earlier this year, but the club then refused to sign off on the contract.

The uncertainty of head coach Erik ten Hag, following some high-profile mistakes from De Gea, is believed to have led to the Red Devils withdrawing their offer and placing a lower wage on the table.

De Gea is not thought to be willing to accept the current terms, which are believed to be a huge reduction on the £375,000-a-week package that he collects.

A recent report claimed that the experienced goalkeeper is now expected to leave Old Trafford, 12 years after arriving from Atletico Madrid.

De Gea took to social media on Wednesday afternoon to post a yawning emoji, hinting at his frustration with his current situation.

A number of Saudi clubs are believed to be willing to pay the goalkeeper a large salary to make the move to the country this summer.

De Gea is still believed to be determined to remain at Old Trafford and had allegedly accepted a big reduction on his current salary before Man United withdrew the offer.

The stopper made some high-profile mistakes during the 2022-23 campaign, notably against Sevilla in the Europa League and West Ham United in the Premier League.

However, De Gea was the Golden Glove winner for the 2022-23 Premier League season, having kept 17 clean sheets in 38 appearances in the competition.

Inter Milan's Andre Onana is thought to be the club's leading target to replace De Gea, should the current number one leave on a free transfer.

Porto's Diogo Costa has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, although the Portugal international is likely to prove to be too expensive.

Man United's players are due to return to the club next week for the start of pre-season training, and it is still unclear whether De Gea will train alongside his teammates on July 3.
