Arsenal could achieve an unprecedented Premier League winning record when they cross paths with Manchester United in Sunday's tantalising fixture at Old Trafford.

Mikel Arteta's men make the long journey north having rediscovered their clinical edge in the final third, demolishing PSV Eindhoven 7-1 in Tuesday's Champions League last-16 first leg.

The Gunners' ruthless performance in the Netherlands was a stark contrast to their toothless Premier League displays of late, having failed to score in successive matches against West Ham United and Nottingham Forest.

As a result, the striker-less North London side could be 16 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table by the time they kick off on Sunday, as the Reds host basement boys Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

While the Gunners may not end their 21-year wait for another top-flight title, victory on Sunday would see them break the record for the most consecutive Premier League wins over Man United.

Arteta has overseen four straight victories against the Red Devils in the Premier League, and no side has ever beaten Man United five times in a row in the English top flight since 1992.

Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester City and Liverpool have also enjoyed four-game winning runs against the Red Devils down the years, but none has ever been able to hit the five-game mark.

The Gunners' current hot streak versus Man United began with a 3-2 home success in the 2022-23 season, before they prevailed 3-1 at home and 1-0 away during the 2023-24 top-flight campaign.

Arteta also masterminded a 2-0 Emirates victory in December 2024, although Arsenal were stunned by Ruben Amorim's 10 men on penalties in the third round of the FA Cup in January.

However, Arsenal should head to Manchester as the favourites to achieve another club first, as they could win consecutive Premier League games at Old Trafford for the first time ever, last doing so in the league in 1979.

Leandro Trossard could join exclusive Arsenal club at Old Trafford

Belgian winger Leandro Trossard was responsible for the only goal in Arsenal's 1-0 success at Old Trafford last season, putting him on the brink of joining an exclusive Gunners goalscoring club.

Should the former Brighton man find the back of the net on Sunday, he will become just the third Arsenal player to score in back-to-back Premier League matches at the Theatre of Dreams.

Emmanuel Adebayor was the first Gunner to do so across the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored at Old Trafford in both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 campaigns.

Trossard will comprise part of a ravaged Arsenal attack with Ethan Nwaneri and Mikel Merino, the latter of whom is filling a number nine role that Chido Obi also could have done a job in for the Gunners.

The 17-year-old turned down a new Arsenal deal to join Man United in the summer, and Amorim revealed on Friday whether he would be in contention for a first Premier League start against his former employers.
